Would very much like to see a Venn diagram showing the correlation between people who complained that the "squee brigade" abandoned Doctor Who because an older man was cast and people claiming that they will never watch again now that Jodie Whittaker has been cast.

I have concerns about how the character may be written, but none about who will be playing her.

I thought they were happy that they thought Capaldi had driven off the "squee brigade". I certainly remember seeing both fans and press writers coming very close to "now the Doctor is old and ugly and obnoxious again all those irritating girls will disappear".

An utterly tedious lot showing they were just as tedious as they were four years ago.

Yeah, I'm really concerned about the writing. Especially since someone, probably you, told me it'll be all new writers. There are ten thousand ways to write a woman Doctor well, but a million wrong ones, so it's still easier to get the latter than the former.

Regarding the writing and the showrunner - I found this tumblr post from a fan/critic whose views I have high regard for. She points out that Chibnall has written female characters really well in Broadchurch (multi-dimensional, allowed to be angry) and generally left me a lot more optimistic about him as a new showrunner.

I only hope that they don't write her as incapable and always needing to be rescued by a "strong male".
