Something that I saw on Twitter earlier today - summaries of film plots thrown into reverse. Feel free to identify which films these are.

1 The world is created. It turns out that you can fight in the War Room.

2 One day they'll have Paris.

3 Much ado about porn leads to Humphrey Bogart getting hot and sweaty.

4 Cross dressing motel owner  pulls woman's car out of swamp.

5 Man with laryngitis, rubber suit and rodent issues is reunited with parents

6 Civil servant's boss is unimpressed by his family home and has him shot.

7 A stay in a luxury hotel helps Jack recover from frostbite.

8 Van Helsing puts up some curtains so Dracula brings his friend back to life.

This would work better if you numbered things :-p

1) Dr Strangelove
2) Whatever movie it is that they say "We'll always have Paris" in.
3) Dunno.
4) Psycho? (Not seen it, just triggered by "cross-dressing motel owner")
5) Batman
6) Oooh, dunno this one!
7) The Shining
8) Not sure _which_ Dracula this would be :->

I'm guessing that's not (6), so it must be (2) or (3)?

It's the one where they'll always have Paris and I only know that because I watched that episode of Red Dwarf until the line lost all meaning.

Gotcha. Never seen Casablanca, and not seen Red Dwarf in a _very_ long time.

#6 is Skyfall isn't it? (But I think I also guessed that the last time I saw [personal profile] magister do a blog post describing films in weird ways like this. It may just be that I'm likely to think "James Bond" when I see him say "civil servant." :) )

And I think I know what he's talking about in #3 but I feel disqualified on account of going to a cinema to see it with him today. :)

#5 can't be Batman, though. Because bats aren't bloody rodents.

I saw an internet comic once that said they were, so it must be true!

One day, when I'm not tired and stressed and grouchy, I'd be really interested in finding out where that misconception comes from.

Not tonight, obviously.

I reckon it's a) bats looking like mice with wings and/or b) people not really knowing what rodents are beyond "small things, probably mammals."

"I know it's snobbish but I do feel bad for my friends who haven't seen Psycho and Casablanca," I said to Andrew.

"Excuse to have a film night!" he said, pointing out we're conveniently halfway between [personal profile] innerbrat and [personal profile] andrewducker.

"That'd be a really weird double feature!" I said. "Imagine! Which would you show first? I reckon Psycho, but I think they'd both wreck the other a bit."

Now Andrew autistically wants to connect those things by also showing M.

I think that's a bit much and it's definitely less an essential-viewing kind of thing than the other two.

You'd definitely have to start with Casablanca then, though.

Yeah, the connection being it has both Peter Lorre and serial killing in it. :)

It is a fantastic movie, but it'd mean I'd no longer be willing to show up for this film night. That and Psycho would be a bit much for me in a single evening.

Maybe we should show them both at once. Either on two different scenes, or by cutting them together, as if one was flashbacks from the other.

It's not like Andrew hasn't written essays like that...

He did answer me by suggesting cutting scenes from the two of them together!

You're shocked, I know. He's so unpredictable, right?
